A rare late 18th-century verge automaton depicting the Battle of Arcola, housed in silver pair cases. The full-plate gilt fusee movement features a finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with endstone in a polished steel setting, and a plain three-arm gilt balance with blued-steel spiral hairspring. The silver regulator dial has a gilt indicator.

The white enamel dial includes a small subsidiary dial with Arabic numerals and blued-steel hands. The lower half is decorated in polychrome enamel illustrating the battle: Napoleon on the left, carrying a flag and riding a black horse onto the bridge with his troops, while Croatian and Austrian forces fire cannon on the right. A semi-circular aperture in the centre of the bridge reveals a rotating disc painted with cavalry riders, appearing to charge as the watch runs. Above the scene is inscribed: “Bataille bei Arcola gewonnen von Bonaparte – d16ten Novbr 1795.”

The matching silver pair cases have a silver pendant and bow, with hallmarks visible only on the inner case.
