An exceptionally rare late 18th-century Swiss cylinder watch with quarter-repeating mechanism and visible balance, set within a diamond-adorned gold pendant. The small rectangular full-plate movement, featuring elegantly canted corners, has nearly half of its top plate removed to accommodate the petite bell. It is key-wound with a resting barrel and fitted with a polished steel cylinder and steel escape wheel. The decorative balance, its rim set with small diamonds, is visible through the dial, with four of its five arms delicately openworked to allow access to the upper pivot. The watch strikes the quarters via a slide-activated repeater on a bell.

The signed white enamel dial includes a subsidiary ring of Roman numerals beneath the exposed balance and is complemented by blued steel Breguet hands. The small gold case, also with canted corners, is pierced and engraved to enhance the resonance of the bell. The bezel, crafted in gold and enamel, is set with diamonds, as is the bow. A small steel lever at five o’clock operates the repeating mechanism, protected by a sprung dust shutter.

The pendant watch is housed in a fitted oval brown morocco presentation case, gilt-decorated and signed by the retailer Russells. The interior is lined with cream velvet, with the accompanying gold key stored beneath a liftable cushion.
