A late 18th-century French verge watch in a pearl-set gold and enamel consular case, accompanied by its matching chatelaine. The full-plate gilt fusee movement features a finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, a plain three-arm gilt balance with blued-steel spiral hairspring, and a silver regulator dial with a gilt indicator. The engine-turned silver dial is wound through the centre and has Roman numerals and blued-steel hands.
The fine gold consular case is set with a row of large split pearls around the bezels. The back has a circular panel of translucent dark blue enamel over an engine-turned ground, decorated with a floral design set with small diamond chips, bordered by smaller split pearls and an enamel band. The sprung front bezel opens by pressing a button in the rectangular gold pendant.
The unusual matching chatelaine includes a hinged silver-gilt clip and a large oval centre of dark blue glass ornamented with chased and engraved four-colour gold depicting a dove, quiver, and torch. This is framed by a gold oval border with ribbon motifs above and below, each set with a single small pearl. From this frame hang two chains supporting a small oval cartouche and the watch, plus two further chains carrying the oval key and a plain gold seal. All three ovals are similarly made of dark blue glass in gold frames decorated with three-colour gold motifs.
