About The Pearl Set Gold and Enamel French Verge
A late 18th-century French verge watch in a pearl-set gold and enamel case. The full-plate gilt fusee movement features a finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with coqueret, a plain three-arm gilt balance with blued-steel spiral hairspring, and a silver regulator dial with blued-steel indicator. The watch is wound through the signed white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals and blued-steel Breguet hands.
The 18-carat gold consular case has gold and enamel bezels set with a single row of large split pearls. The back features translucent purple enamel over an engine-turned ground, set with a lock of plaited hair under glass in a stone-set oval frame. The watch has a gold pendant and bow, with the sprung front bezel opened by a button in the band.
