About The Gold Quarter Repeating Swiss Automaton
An early 19th-century Swiss quarter-repeating verge automaton in a gold open-face case. The full-plate gilt fusee movement features a finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with a polished steel endstone in a steel setting, a plain three-arm gilt balance with blued-steel spiral hairspring, and a silver regulator dial with blued-steel indicator. The pendant activates the quarter repeater on two gongs.
The silver ring dial has Roman numerals and gilt Breguet hands. Within the dial, two gilt chased and engraved classical figures are fixed above the plate and polished steel repeating work; as the watch strikes hours and quarters, the figures’ arms move as if striking the bells between them.
The plain gold open-face case has a gold push pendant for the repeater and is wound through the sprung gilt cuvette.
