A fine and large early 19th-century chronometer by Barwise, housed in an 18-carat gold consular case. The full-plate gilt keywind movement features a fusee with Harrison’s maintaining power and a plain cock set with a diamond endstone in a blued-steel setting. It is fitted with a heavy compensation balance, its blued-steel and brass laminated rims secured by screws to slender brass arms, along with a blued-steel helical hairspring.

The watch employs an Earnshaw spring-detent chronometer escapement, the detent dovetailed into a gilt foot. Jewelling is screwed in, with endstones to the escape pivots. The signed and numbered white enamel dial bears Roman numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, and gold hands.

The substantial engine-turned 18-carat gold consular case—now softly faded—includes a gold pendant and bow, dust-proof recesses for bezel and back, and a small securing hole beside the movement latch. Stamped with maker’s mark “TH” in a rectangle, matching the movement number.
