About The Gold and Enamel Triple Cased Verge Pocket Watch
A late 18th-century French verge watch in gold and enamel pair cases with a glazed protective outer. The full-plate fire-gilt movement has pentagonal baluster pillars and features a pierced and engraved cock, along with a pierced and engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc. It is fitted with a fusee and chain, a plain three-arm gilt balance, and a blued-steel spiral hairspring.
The white enamel dial shows Roman and Arabic numerals and has pierced gilt hands. The plain gold inner case includes a gold pendant and bow, and a circular internal gilt shutter over the winding aperture, moved via a small slot. The gold outer case has engraved bezels decorated with champlevé enamel, and the back is set with a fine polychrome enamel portrait of a young lady.
