A fine late-19th-century Swiss gold and enamel brooch watch crafted in the form of a beetle. It features a heart-shaped, key-wind gilt bar movement with a suspended going barrel, a plain cock with a polished steel regulator, and a plain three-arm gilt balance fitted with a blued steel spiral hairspring. The watch employs a polished steel cylinder and a steel escape wheel.

The small white enamel dial displays Roman and Arabic numerals and is fitted with blued steel hands. Its exquisite gold and enamel case is modeled as a beetle: the translucent red enamel wings, set with diamonds and pearls, open when a button on the tail is pressed, revealing the dial beneath. The head is finely chased and engraved with champlevé black enamel, and set with green stone eyes. The underside is rendered with remarkable realism, featuring finely chased and engraved legs applied to the hinged cover.

The watch is wound and set through its gold oval cuvette and is fitted with an oval gold loop for a chain.
