An exceptionally rare late 18th-century Swiss centre-seconds virgule watch with wolf’s-teeth train wheels, in a gold and enamel case with matching chatelaine. The key-wind gilt movement features a suspended going barrel with blue and polished steel stopwork, plain gilt cocks with polished steel coquerets, and a three-arm gilt balance beneath the gold virgule escape wheel with blued steel spiral hairspring. The polished steel regulator is fitted with a blued screw for adjustment. All barrel, train wheels, and pinions have a wolf’s-teeth profile.
The signed white enamel dial displays centre seconds, Arabic numerals, and pierced gold hands. The gold and enamel case opens via a sprung back button, revealing a signed gilt cuvette; a small lever stops the balance. Bezels and back feature translucent blue and white enamel with gilt decoration, the back showing a polychrome coat of arms over an engine-turned ground.
The long gold and enamel macaroni-style chatelaine includes four chains, enamelled cartouches, and a centre chain with a matching gold and enamel key, decorated with geometric patterns and the family crest.
