About The English Cylinder with Fine Gold Dial
An early 19th-century English cylinder watch with a fine three-colour gold dial in an engine-turned gold case. The full-plate gilt keywind fusee movement is fixed in the case by three blued-steel dog screws and features an engraved cock with large garnet endstone, a plain three-arm polished steel balance with blued-steel spiral hairspring, and a gilt Bosley regulator. The movement has a polished steel cylinder and large brass escape wheel.
The gold dial has a matted ground with applied three-colour gold decoration, a central geometric repoussé motif, applied gold Arabic numerals, and fine serpentine gold hands. The engine-turned 18-carat open-face case has a ribbed middle. The watch is wound through the gold cuvette, maker’s mark “LC,” and comes with a silver ratchet key on a short chain.
