A small 18th-century French dumb quarter-repeating cylinder watch in a diamond-set gold consular case. The full-plate gilt fusee movement features a finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with garnet endstone, a plain three-arm gilt balance with blued-steel spiral hairspring, and a silver regulator dial with blued-steel indicator. The polished steel cylinder and large brass escape wheel have jewelled pivots. The quarter repeater is activated via a push pendant on small blocks in the case.

The watch is wound through the signed white enamel dial, with Roman and Arabic numerals and fine diamond-set hands; the signature is also engraved on the dial plate edge. The three-colour gold consular case is set with diamonds, with the back showing a scene of a couple in a formal garden framed by an oval diamond-set border. The two-colour gold bezel, set with a row of diamonds, opens via a small concealed pin at the edge. The watch has a gold push pendant, diamond-set gold bow, and is marked with the maker’s mark “XG” below a star in a rectangle.
