About The Unusual Gold and Enamel Cylinder Pocket Watch by Brockbanks
A rare late 18th-century English centre-seconds cylinder watch by Brockbanks in a pearl-set gold and enamel consular case. The full-plate fire-gilt movement with fusee and chain features a pierced and engraved cock with a small chased bust, diamond endstone, silver regulator disc, plain three-arm steel balance, and blued steel hairspring. Polished steel cylinder and large escape wheel.
The signed gold centre-seconds dial has a subsidiary Roman numeral chapter above the centre, matted and engraved decoration, and blued steel hands. The gold consular case is set with split pearls, with an unusual black cloisonné enamel back decorated with polychrome foliate motifs. A button in the pendant opens the sprung front bezel.
