About The Rare Gold Quarter Repeating Duplex
A 19th-century English quarter-repeating duplex watch, influenced by Breguet, in a gold open-face case. The keywind gilt-bar movement has a suspended going barrel, a plain cock with polished steel regulator and diamond endstone, and a compensation balance with blued-steel spiral hairspring. The duplex escapement features a brass escape wheel with pivots set in endstones.
The quarter repeater strikes on two polished steel gongs, activated by a pull-and-twist plunger in the band. The engine-turned gold dial has a subsidiary seconds, faded Roman numerals, and blued-steel hands. The engine-turned 18-carat open-face case has a ribbed middle and the repeat plunger at three o’clock. The signed and numbered clip-on gold cuvette is locked by a screw (now lacking), bearing maker’s mark “CAP” in an oval.
