About The Rare Gold and Enamel Quiver Form Pendant Watch
A rare mid-19th-century diamond-set gold and enamel pendant watch fashioned in the form of a quiver filled with arrows. It houses a rectangular, key-wind gilt bar movement with a suspended going barrel, a plain cock with polished steel regulator, and a plain three-arm gilt balance with blued steel spiral hairspring. The escapement features a polished steel cylinder and steel escape wheel.
The small circular white enamel dial displays Roman numerals and blued steel hands. The unusual and imaginative gold case is modeled as a quiver complete with six arrows and an engraved gold shoulder strap. The trapezoid-shaped 18-carat gold body is bordered with engraved decoration at both the top and base. Its hinged front cover is adorned with a polychrome enamel miniature depicting a classically dressed young woman, framed by a border of diamonds. The sprung front cover opens upon pressing the central arrow. A small gold ball finial accents the base.
The hinged back is embellished with an applied gold chased and engraved cartouche showing two birds perched upon a cage. The gold shoulder strap is finely engraved with intricate detail. The watch is wound and set through a plain rectangular gold cuvette.
Presented in its fitted, double-door morocco-covered case, the interior is lined with green velvet and includes a concealed key and easel stand.
