An 18th-century Irish verge watch in gold and enamel pair cases with a matching chatelaine. The full-plate fire-gilt movement has square baluster pillars, a pierced and engraved cock, engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc, fusee and chain with worm-and-wheel barrel, and a plain three-arm gilt balance with blued steel spiral hairspring. The white enamel dial displays Roman and Arabic numerals with decorative pierced gold hands. The plain gold inner case bears the maker’s mark “R.H.” with gold pendant and stirrup bow.

The gold and enamel outer case features geometric white and blue champlevé bezels and a central enamel cartouche “en grisaille” of a classically dressed woman with an angel, bordered by foliate decoration and a tied ribbon. The matching chatelaine has a gilt enamelled clip with an oval enamel plaque, three gold-faced cartouches joined by rings, and four additional chains with gold and enamel cartouches, all terminating in hinged spring clips. The set is presented in a recent maroon morocco display box lined with grey velvet and fitted with a glazed lid and easel stand.
