An early 19th-century English Massey-type two-lever watch with a decorative four-colour gold dial in a gold open-face case. The full-plate gilt keywind fusee movement has a dust cover pierced to reveal the cock and polished and blued-steel barrel setup, with Harrison’s maintaining power. The chased and engraved cock is inscribed “Patent” on the table and “Detached” on the foot, with a large diamond endstone and a blued-steel Bosley regulator.

The unusual three-arm balance has polished steel arms with a blued-steel inner rim set within a gilt outer rim, fitted with a blued-steel spiral hairspring. Large screwed-in Liverpool window jewelling is present on all pivots, including the fusee, except the centre. The watch features a Massey-type two-lever escapement and a lateral steel lever under the front bezel to stop the movement.

The fine decorative gold dial has a subsidiary seconds dial, a matted ground, three-colour applied gold decoration at the centre and edge, applied polished gold Roman numerals, and blued-steel hands. The substantial 18-carat gold open-face case, hallmarked Chester without a date letter, has a chased and engraved middle, bezels, pendant, and bow, with a crisp engine-turned back and vacant circular cartouche. Maker’s mark “T.H” over “J.H” and number correspond to the movement.
