About The Gold English Full Plate Chronometer
A fine early 19th-century English full-plate spring detent chronometer in a decorative 18-carat gold open-face case. The full-plate gilt keywind fusee movement includes Harrison’s maintaining power and an engraved cock set with a diamond endstone in a blued-steel setting. It features a large compensation balance with two wedge-shaped weights secured by polished steel plates, and a freesprung blued-steel helical hairspring.
The Earnshaw-type spring detent chronometer escapement has jewelled locking, discharging, and impulse stones, with screwed-in jewelling and endstones to the escape pivots.
The matted gold dial includes applied gold Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, gold hands, and a blued-steel seconds hand. The substantial engine-turned 18-carat gold open-face case has a decorative chased and repoussé middle, stamped with maker’s mark “TH” in a rectangle and numbered to match the movement.
