About The Gold and Enamel Chatelaine Repeating Virgule
A late 18th-century Swiss quarter-repeating virgule watch in a diamond- and pearl-set gold and enamel consular case, accompanied by a matching chatelaine. The full-plate gilt fusee movement features a pierced and engraved bridge cock with garnet endstone, three-arm gilt balance with blued steel hairspring, silver regulator dial, and rare virgule escapement with large brass escape wheel. Push pendant quarter repeater strikes on two blocks.
The white enamel dial displays Roman numerals at the quarters and Arabic numerals between, with decorative pierced gold hands. The gold consular case and bezel are set with split pearls, the back enamelled and decorated with applied white-metal diamonds.
The matching chatelaine incorporates gold and enamel links, pearl-set bells with tassels, and a spring-clip attachment, including a gold and enamel key. Presented in a red morocco fitted case.
